More often than not, I find women wearing foundation which is either too dark or too light for their face (mostly too light and ghostly looking). How do you know which one to pick as we have so many options to choose from?
Firstly do some research and look into different brands and see what is it that you are looking for. Be it light, medium, or full coverage – it has to match your skin tone (yellow, olive, or pink undertone). Once you decide on a few makeup brands that you are interested in trying – go to their counter and ask them to match it with your skin and ask for a small sample of whatever you think is best suited for your skin tone. Wait till it settles into your skin and make sure to check it in daylight to ensure it truly matches your face as well as your neck.
Few things to keep in mind:
Whenever you are in doubt about a particular color, go a bit dark as opposed to a lighter color (last thing you would want it to look chalky)
Always match it to your neck if there is a major difference in your neck and face
Know your skin type – dry, oily, combination, sensitive, mature etc
Know whether you want liquid, powder, or cream foundation
If you already know your foundation color of a particular brand and would like to try a different brand without going through the hassle of trying different colors to match your skin tone….check out www.findation.com. It’s a great website that I came across and hopefully can help you save time on picking another great foundation.
Best foundations that I have come across – bit expensive on pocket but definitely worth investing in:
Dior, Makeup Forever Professional, Estee Lauder, Too Faced, MAC
Best drugstore foundations – good quality and price:
Revlon, Neutrogena, L’Oreal, Maybelline
