Or is it summer…
Who are we kidding? Here in Dubai, everyday feels like high summer. One thing I love about this time of year though is the fresh new fashion in stores – more specifically, florals!
Okay, I know flowery print may seem like an obvious choice. Remember Meryl Streep in The Devil Wears Prada? “Florals? For spring? Groundbreaking.”
So just how do we inject some fun into florals and make them new again? Here’s my pick of the latest floral trends to refresh your wardrobe for hot summer style.
Go Wild with Colour
If you’re looking to update your seasonal closet with just a few items, make sure they’re bright. I’m talking bold, booming colour like this yellow number from Jasper Conran adorned in beautiful summery blooms. A dress like this one makes a fun alternative to a little black dress, especially when worn to a wedding or a fancy garden party. Dress it up with pointy stiletto heels or sparkly flat sandals for a more casual effect.
Mix Up Your Prints
I love this look on actress Alexis Bledel. She’s wearing a midi dress by Indian designer Saloni that’s made up partly of polka dots, and partly of flowers. I can see this outfit working perfectly for a day at the office that leads into cheeky after-work drinks on the Marina.
Take It Easy
Above all, fashion should be fun and effortless. If you’re stuck on what to wear in the unbearable heat, you won’t go wrong with a sheer floral maxi dress. With just one item, you’ve got a ready-made outfit all sorted. All that’s needed is a pair of quirky sunglasses and pretty sandals and you’re good to go. This 70s-inspired maxi from Ted Baker has an island-style Hawaii vibe to it – perfect for poolside parties this season. Can you say “Aloha”!
